The Rhode Island Wind Ensemble (RIWE) is a dynamic performing group of fifty skilled professional and avocational musicians. RIWE believes that music helps build community; the social and emotional ties that arise from performing and listening to music together help us feel connected to each other in ways that are both subtle and powerful. Our members are volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life. RIWE provides a forum for this diverse membership to perform and share their love of music with the wider community.
The ensemble offers a diverse repertoire of music: transcriptions from light orchestral and operatic repertoire; traditional, ethnic, and contemporary band repertoire; and jazz, Broadway musicals, and movie scores. This ensemble has considerable experience playing in concert halls and at outdoor venues, with monthly concerts throughout Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts. We have collaborated with choral, instrumental, community and school groups, including Scituate, Mount Pleasant, East Providence, and Blackstone-Millville high schools and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble. Our concerts often feature instrumental and vocal soloists drawn from our group and from the professional community.
