The original Providence Brigade Band was chartered in 1846 and was made up of tradesmen and professional people who were musicians by avocation. That tradition continues today. The band recreates a brass band from 1850 to 1875 and plays music from before, during and after the American Civil War. The arrangements are from the period and are played using authentic instruments from the era. The band also wears accurately reproduced uniforms typically worn by militia or military bands of that time.
Since its resurgence in 1996, the Providence Brigade Band has attained a distinguished reputation in the New England area. These are just a few of the events or organizations the band has performed for:
Gettysburg National Military Park
Gettysburg Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremonies
